 Rann Utsav

It was Rann Utsav time and what better time than this to visit Rann of Kutch, Gujarat.

Rann of Kutch Tents stay, Gujarat
Rann of Kutch Tents arranged in semi circle

This was our family trip, so we decided to include all important places in Gujarat like Dwarka, Somnath, Gir etc.

Route plan for the trip :

Ahmedabad to Rann of Kutch - 1 Night at Rann Utsav
Rann of Kutch to Gir - 2 Nights at Gir Forest resort
Gir to Somnath - Dwarka - 2 Night (Also included one of the Jyotirlinga)
Dwarka return Ahmedabad - 1 Night and then return back

Flight tickets from Pune to Ahmedabad were too cheap, costed around 1200 per person one way.
Bookings for Rann of kutch were done through their online portal. There are many options available for tents, as it was winter time, we had gone for Non Ac Swiss Cottage.
The total package for 5 people costed around 32k which included all meals and 2 tents and transfer between Bhuj railway station and Kutch.

 Rann Utsav Detail

Gujarat Tourism holds a Rann Ustav festival, which begins at the start of November and extends until the end of February.
The festival is  set up in Dhordo, approximately 1.5 hours north of Bhuj, which is developed as Gateway to Rann. A tent city with hundreds of luxury tents is set up near the Gateway to Rann Resort at Dhordo for visitors, along with rows of food , handicraft stalls, folk songs and dance performances by locals and many such activities. Its truly a fest for the visitors to experience all these things at one place.

How To Reach :

There are no direct public transfers to Rann of Kutch, so one has to first reach Bhuj. From Bhuj, there are private transfers available. There are multiple ways to reach Rann of Kutch:

By Air : Nearest airport is Bhuj and the other is Ahmedabad aiport.
By Bus : You can choose to travel from Surat, Ahmedabad, Baroda and Mumbai by Volvo, non Ac and sleeper buses.
By Train : Trains are available from Pune, Mumbai till Bhuj.
By Cabs : If you prefer relaxed travel, this could be a good choice. It takes approx. 8-9 hours from Surat, Ahmedabad and Rajkot.

Day 1:

We had booked cab from Ahmedabad airport to Bhuj railway station, from there bus transportation was included in the Rann of Kutch stay.It was a overnight journey of 8 hours from Ahmedabad to Bhuj. The roads were all in good conditions throughout the journey.
The place is complete desert area and one would see very isolated habitat on the way to Dhordo, where the Rann Utsav city is set up.But eventually as you reach Dhordo, its a complete different view altogether.Who would imagine such a beautiful habitat setup in a deserted area like this, its like those imaginary oasis that we hear in stories.
