Star gazing at Bhandardara near Mumbai

Camping at Bhandardara

Bhandardara lake

Its such rare occasion to see shooting stars in city, but what if you could see them all night long.Yes this is place to be in, vicinity of Bhandardara dam.A place close to  Nashik(around 60km) and 70km from Kasara railway station.

We had decided to go for camping to this site on our first anniversary, a bit surprising isn't it? Well we wanted to go for short and best trip possible to experience silence under the open sky and what better place could it be than one of the most visited site by sky watchers.

There are many camping groups who have facilities to this site, so we decided to go with one such group. We started off from Pune to Mumbai to go along with the group from there onward. One would need to catch Kasara local from there on else they can directly reach from Pune to the site which is much easier. From Kasara station there are several taxis waiting for you to take to dam vicinity.

So we had all the group into their taxis and off we were for the place, some on top taxis as well 😜 .Just 3 km before the camping site we halted for snacks at village cafe which was famous for its Google Bhaji, yes you heard it right.

It was sunset time by the time we reached the site and WOW was the sunset glimpse.

There were tents lined up with view of the dam and the view was superb, all what campers wants.

We thought to have first glance of this beautiful place, so we thought of trekking down to the river. It was good nature walk after whole days travel and natures makes sure you enjoy each bit of it.
Upon reaching back we had the bone fire set and all was set for the night. We had a gala time talking with group members and then after having some hot soup we did what we cam for, Star gazing!!!

Bhandardara bonfire
Wow!!! it seemed like there was some artificial wall with stars on it, so many stars at a time not a usual site for person from city. You feel like just keep looking at sky and stars and then feel you are such a small part of this universe and yes we even spotted 5-6 shooting stars. This being winter, it was ought to become cold and once we went to sleep was when I realized I have frozen. It was cold enough not to allow me to sleep.
We woke up early morning for bests sights, sunrise. It was 6 AM and it had started getting bright enough, to have another different look at the same sight which we had seen earlier during sunset.Nature always surprises you with its beauty, we just kept looking at surroundings for almost 1 hour

After a wonderful night full of stars and beautiful sunrise, it was time for us to leave the place and return back to home.

Yet another place, yet another experience. We restrain ourselves from going out of our comfortable zone, that's where the true experience lies.

Get going, Keep traveling!!!
